The time of the year when we celebrate the planet (not that we don’t celebrate it daily), Earth Week, is coming upon us. This is a week when we show our appreciation for all that Earth provides to human society, including basic resources like freshwater, wood, food, and fresh air. It is a time when we look back at how much we have done to protect the environment, from improving air and water quality to addressing the ozone layer; but it is also a time when we look forward to the future and think about what we need to do as a society to tackle big issues facing the planet, including global warming, freshwater scarcity and pollution, deforestation, and many other local, regional, and global issues.
Green Irene wants to celebrate Earth Week by helping YOU go green for Earth Day. If there was a time of the year to decide to take specific steps to Go GREEN, Earth Week is that time. Jeannie from LA is on the “Green Committee” for her company and asked for some ideas. Pitch in with some ideas by submitting a comment.
I will start it off with a thought: It should be a small workgroup-based, not individual vs individual, committee. I think collective efforts for a workgroup to improve on several areas at once would be most beneficial: paper reduction, lighting reduction, energy use reduction, improvements in Indoor Air and reductions of workplace toxins in use, as well as water usage and recycling and waste reduction. OK thats a lot…
How about a Green Event checklist customized for that company and is used for any meeting with more than 10 people? I have all kinds of ideas on prizes, but logo stainless steel water bottles is a good one.
